Solar Technologies Provides Solar Power for an Environmental Cause.
Earth Day Santa Cruz kicked off its 3rd year Saturday, April 17, at San Lorenzo Park. The burgeoning event is presented by Ecology Action and Save Our Shores, featuring eco-conscious vendors, entertainment, workshops and activities. The zero-waste event attracted over 90 vendors and several thousand like-minded individuals who gathered for the single cause of raising awareness about the environment.
Solar Technologies joined the conservation effort by powering the entire event with solar energy, which is a renewable alternative that doesn't deplete our resources and decreases our use of fossil fuels.
A 10 kW solar generator, housing an array of 12 panels and three 6,000 watt inverters, was used to silently power the bands, stage events and food vendors, harnessing the power of the sun to generate its own clean energy and emit no pollution.
Solar Technologies' resident electrical expert and NABCEP Certified installer, Casey McDonald, was on-hand to set up the array and explain the operational details to interested attendees throughout the day.
"This was a great opportunity to connect with many of our satisfied clients who stopped by to discuss their own experience of how going solar has impacted their lives by reducing their energy costs and knowing that they're doing their part to reduce our carbon footprint," said Lad Wallace, Director of Business Development for Solar Technologies.
The event provided activities for all ages in a setting surrounded by musical performances and delicious food. Kids got hands-on experience spreading earth plaster on straw bales to build walls and got lessons in science and solar energy production. Adults were exposed to a multitude of ways to effect change, while enjoying eco-friendly products and a display of electric cars and bikes. Those who chose to ride bikes to the event were rewarded with raffle tickets for prizes and a bike valet service was provided.
"The sense of family values and education blended with political activism was alive and well at Earth Day this year. A good time was had by all while working toward environmentally responsible alternatives for a healthier planet. It was inspiring to see this kind of support in the community," said Solar Technologies Sales and Design Consultant, Kent Bossange.
