Solar Technologies Installs 84kW Solar System in Downtown Santa Cruz
NIAC, a nonprofit organization, invests in the future health of the planet and makes smart economic choices for members.
Solar Technologies announces that the solar installation is underway at 333 Front Street in Santa Cruz.
The Nonprofits' Insurance Alliance of California (NIAC) will offset 60% of their electrical use with solar
energy production.
NIAC is a charitable nonprofit organization based in Santa Cruz which serves more than 7,000 nonprofits in California alone. The organization provides stable, affordable insurance for nonprofit company liability needs. The company was created as a result of the liability insurance crisis in the mid-1980s when many nonprofits in California could not obtain insurance at any price. NIAC insures organizations such as boys and girls clubs, homeless shelters, senior centers, paratransit providers, humane societies — the complete range of community-based nonprofits serving their communities.
NIAC purchased and rehabbed the Front Street building in Santa Cruz in
2000, and being an environmentally conscious company, using solar energy
for their power was consistent with company objectives.
"We take pride in keeping a well-maintained building at the south end of Front Street. We are also a Monterey Bay Green Business and take seriously concerns about the environment. Several members of our staff, including me, have installed solar on their homes and are delighted with the results. When we asked our board of directors for authorization to install solar on the building, they were strongly supportive," stated Pamela Davis, Founder, President and CEO of the Nonprofits Insurance Alliance Group.
NIAC chose Solar Technologies to design and install the system because they were a local Santa Cruz company, and they proposed the best solution: a premium product that yields the most electricity for the finite roof space available.
